STEPHANIE BUDKE KILLED IN HEAD-ON CRASH ON U.S 83 NEAR NORTH PLATTE

Jim Harris Aug. 23, 2019

North Platte, Nebraska (August 23, 2019) – A McCook woman was killed Thursday morning in a head-on collision near North Platte, about five miles south of Lake Maloney, according to a local news source.

The fatal collision happened at about 7:00 a.m. August 22, on U.S. Highway 83, near the Nu Star Energy pipeline plant.

According to the Nebraska State Patrol, Stephanie Budke, 33, was driving a sedan northbound when she attempted to pass another vehicle and crossed the center line where she crashed head-on into a southbound semi-trailer.

Budke was killed in the crash. The driver of the semi, Sohi Nahar Singh, 65, of Bakersfield, California, and his passenger, were uninjured in the crash.

Singh was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

The weather at the time was extremely foggy and witnesses believed the accident was fog-related.

Drugs and alcohol were not factors in the crash.

The crash closed the highway.

Motorists were urged to find alternate routes between Lake Maloney and the north junction with Nebraska Highway 23.

The crash remains under investigation.

We pass our condolences to the family and friends of Stephanie Budke.
