Jim Harris Aug. 23, 2019

North Platte, Nebraska (August 23, 2019) – A McCook woman was killed Thursday morning in a head-on collision near North Platte, about five miles south of Lake Maloney, according to a local news source.

The fatal collision happened at about 7:00 a.m. August 22, on U.S. Highway 83, near the Nu Star Energy pipeline plant.

According to the Nebraska State Patrol, the woman was driving a sedan northbound when she attempted to pass another vehicle and crossed the centerline where she crashed head-on into a southbound semi-trailer.

The sedan driver was killed in the crash. The driver of the semi and his passenger were uninjured in the crash.

The weather at the time was extremely foggy and witnesses believed the accident was fog-related.

Drugs and alcohol were not factors in the crash.

The crash closed the highway.

Motorists were urged to find alternate routes between Lake Maloney and the north junction with Nebraska Highway 23.

The crash remains under investigation.
