Sarpy County, Nebraska (September 6, 2019) – The authorities have made an arrest in connection to the chain-reaction crash that left a motorcyclist dead last month in Sarpy County.
The fatal crash happened around 4:30 p.m. August 13, on Highway 75, near Highway 34.
Deputies said Michael Burch, 35, of Iowa, was driving his minivan recklessly on the highway when he collided with a motorcycle ridden by 47-year-old Jody Emmert. The crash caused a second crash involving a work van, driven by Keith Jones, 42, of Omaha, and a Ford F-150, driven by Stephanie Orr, 47, of Plattsmouth.
Burch left the scene after the crash but later returned.
Emmert was killed in the crash.
Orr was taken to a local hospital where he was treated and released.
One of the passengers in the Ford, a 13-year-old, sustained a mild injury caused by a seat belt.
Burch was arrested on Thursday. He faces charges of felony motor vehicle homicide, willful reckless driving, and leaving the scene of a personal injury crash.
An investigation is ongoing.
