Omaha, Nebraska (November 1, 2019) – A Nebraska State Patrol trooper was hit by a car while assisting a motorist Monday night in Omaha, authorities said.

The collision occurred around 11:30 p.m. on October 28, in the area of I-80 and I-680.

NSP said the trooper responded to a parked Chevrolet Impala on the shoulder at the intersection. While outside his cruiser, assisting the Impala driver, the driver of a Chrysler Sebring lost control in the snowy conditions.

The trooper was able to leap onto the hood of the Sebring to avoid being struck head-on. The Sebring also hit the Impala.

The trooper returned to assist the Impala driver.

The Impala driver was taken to Bergan Mercy Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The trooper was taken to the hospital with a minor leg injury.

An investigation is underway.
